Murlokio unblocked: a small RPG about a murloc sent out for wolf meat

Murlokio (Murloc RPG, titled simply Murloc in the game) is a side-on role-playing game from 2006, made for the web by GamerDisclaimer.com and drawn with art from Blizzard's Warcraft. You play Murk, a young murloc — the gurgling fish-people of Azeroth's rivers and coasts — who starts the game standing on the shore of his home, Camp Brakil, with 85 health, 100 energy and no weapon. A friend, Ketchin, tells him that Chief Brakil wants to see him and that everyone has been looking for him.

The camp is a row of scenes you walk through with A and D or the arrow keys: huts on stilts, a weapon shop, and the chief's tent, guarded by a murloc who does not let you in until you explain yourself. Inside, the chief explains that the camp's best warriors are away fighting the Kobolds and that there will be a banquet when they return. Somebody has to bring 10 Tender Wolf Meat for it, and that somebody is you. He hands you a Worn Dagger and sends you east.

East of the gates is Elwynn Forest, and that is where the fights start. Battles are turn-based: a menu offers Attack, Skills, Spells, Items and Flee, each side trades a blow per turn, and the numbers float over the fighters. Every enemy has a level next to its portrait; the chief warns that the further you go from camp, the more dangerous it is, and he means it. Beyond the forest the game names places such as Stonecairn River, Brackwell Pumpkin Patch and Jasperdine Mine, with crocolisks, crabs and kobold miners waiting in them.

How to survive your first hours in Murlokio

  1. Equip the dagger before you leave camp: Chief Brakil puts the Worn Dagger in your backpack, not in your hand. Until you click it there, Murk fights bare-handed for 1 damage a hit; equipped, the character sheet shows 2–3.
  2. Look at the level next to the portrait: Every enemy shows its level in the corner of its portrait. A Wolf Cub is level 4 and hits a level-1 Murk for about 12 of his 85 health each turn. If the gap is large, Flee and come back stronger.
  3. Stay near the camp at first: The chief says it himself: the further you go, the more dangerous it gets. The first scenes of Elwynn Forest are where a new murloc should earn his first levels.
  4. Save before every trip: The question mark at the top right has Save Game with three slots. Each slot shows your name, level, location and talent points, and it stays in your browser after you close the tab.
  5. Watch your energy: Skills cost Energy — the yellow bar under your health. Bloodrage turns 20% of your base health into 20 Energy, and Adrenaline Rush refills it over five rounds once per battle.
  6. Talk to everyone twice: Characters with a yellow ! have something for you; a ? means they are waiting for something you are carrying. Quests and rewards come from them, not from the menus.
